BlueClaws Fall 11-10 to Aberdeen in Opener

The IronBirds scored three times in the ninth off Andrew Schultz (0-1) to come back and win. John Rhodes tied the game with a two-run double wit one out. Cesar Prieto, who had three hits, smashed an RBI single to right-center to bring in Rhodes with the game-winning run. TT Bowens hit a solo home run in the eight after Colton Cowser drove in a run in the seventh to cut the BlueClaws lead to 10-7.
The BlueClaws (0-1) fell to 5-16 all time in home openers. Jersey Shore stole nine bases in the game, one off the franchise record set in 2004. Johan Rojas led the team with three.
The top four hitters in the BlueClaws lineup combined to score all 10 runs. Ethan Wilson broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run single in the 6th. Jersey Shore added two more on a stolen base and throwing error allowing Wilson to score and an RBI double by Nick Matera.
Casey Martin had two hits, scored twice, and stole a base.
The teams exchanged blows early with Aberdeen taking an early 3-0 lead. Coby Mayo homered in the first inning to open the scoring.
BlueClaws starter Ben Brown gave up one run in two innings. He became the first BlueClaws pitcher to start back to back home openers.
The teams continue their series on Saturday at 4:05 pm. RHP Mick Abel, Phillies first round pick in 2020, makes his BlueClaws debut.
