BruceClaws Hold Off Cyclones 4-3 on Saturday Night

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Victor Vargas threw six scoreless innings in his BlueClaws debut as Jersey Shore held on to beat Brooklyn 4-3 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Park on Bruce Springsteen Appreciation Night.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Victor Vargas threw six scoreless innings in his BlueClaws debut as Jersey Shore held on to beat Brooklyn 4-3 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Park on Bruce Springsteen Appreciation Night.

Vargas (1-0) was added to the roster earlier in the day and took the spot of Kevin Gowdy, traded to the Rangers on Friday, in the BlueClaws rotation.

Jersey Shore (35-42) has taken three of five from the Cyclones (30-45) to start the six-game series, which wraps up on Sunday at 1:05 pm.

Logan O'Hoppe opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, his 11th blast of the season.

Jersey Shore added three more runs in the fifth. RBI singles by Nate Fassnacht and Vito Friscia made it 3-0 and Jonathan Guzman added a SAC fly to give the BlueClaws a 4-0 lead.

Brooklyn got back in the game on two home runs by Francisco Alvarez. He took Erubiel Armenta deep in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-1. Then in the eighth, he hit a two run home run off Aidan Anderson to bring the Cyclones within 4-3.

Manuel Silva came on in the ninth and gave up a double with two outs before closing out the game to earn the save.

Alec Kisena (1-7) gave up four runs in 4.1 innings and took the loss for Brooklyn.

McCarthy Tatum had two hits in the win.
