BROOKLYN, NY - Casey Martin homered and Corbin Williams reached base three times as two newcomers helped the BlueClaws top Brooklyn 7-5 on Tuesday at Maimonides Park.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the second inning on a solo home run from DJ Stewart, his second of the season. Stewart, who joined the BlueClaws on June 8th, is 9-18 over his last five games.
The six-run third, one off their largest inning of the season, was highlighted by a three-run home run from Martin. The Phillies third-round pick in the 2020 draft from the University of Arkansas, Martin was added to the BlueClaws roster earlier in the day on Tuesday. Jonathan Guzman, Vito Friscia, and Hunter Hearn also drove in runs for the BlueClaws in the inning.
Brooklyn got back in the game, scoring five times off Dominic Pipkin in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run double from catcher Francisco Alvarez. Adrian Hernandez added a two-run single to cut the lead to 7-5 and bring the Cyclones within two.
Pipkin came out after four, allowing five runs, four of which were earned. He added five strikeouts. Manuel Silva (1-0) followed Pipkin and threw three scoreless innings while striking out three. Aneurys Zabala got the last six outs for his team-leading third save.
Stewart, Guzman, and Vito Friscia all had two hits for Jersey Shore, who snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.
Williams, who like Martin was added to the roster earlier in the day, had a hit and two walks, plus one of four BlueClaws stolen bases in the win.
The teams continue their series through Sunday and the BlueClaws return home on Tuesday to start a six-game series with Hudson Valley. Tickets are on sale by clicking here.
