Redbirds Walk Off Nashville for Second Time in Three Games

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds won a back-and-forth affair in extra-inning, walk-off fashion for the second time in three games, taking the rubber match of the three-game series against the Nashville Sounds in 12 innings Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park, 10-9.

After allowing a run in the top of the 12th, the Redbirds (38-25) went right to work and loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the 12th. Patrick Wisdom was hit by a pitch, and Wilfredo Tovar and Bruce Caldwell reached on fielder's choices to set the table. Alberto Rosario drove a sacrifice fly to right field for his third RBI of the game to tie the contest at nine, before Breyvic Valera , who entered the game in the 11th inning as a pinch-runner, singled up the middle to win the game.
Rangel Ravelo had four hits for Memphis and scored twice, and Luke Voit was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.
Memphis led 1-0 after the first and 4-3 after the fourth, with Rosario driving home two and Ravelo adding an RBI double to cap the fourth.
Nashville took an 8-4 lead after the top of the seventh, but the Redbirds started to chip away immediately in the home-half thanks to a three-run Voit home run to right field for his second-straight game with a homer.
Ryan Sherriff retired the Sounds (32-29) in order in the eighth and Sam Tuivailala followed suit in the ninth, bringing the Redbirds to the plate down 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth.
The first two struck out, before Voit singled and was replaced by Todd Cunningham . The pinch-runner scampered home on Harrison Bader 's double to send the game to extra innings for the second time in the three-game series and set up the wild finish.
The Redbirds had six doubles on the day and overcame striking out 16 times.
The Redbirds knocked off the Sounds in 10 innings Friday night, 2-1, to start the series between the two leaders in the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division.
After an off-day tomorrow, the Redbirds continue their homestand Tuesday night at 7:05 with the first of four games against Colorado Springs.
