Redner Great, But Dust Devils Blanked in Vancouver Opener

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Six scoreless innings from starter Zach Redner kept the Tri-City Dust Devils on even footing with the Vancouver Canadians for two-thirds of Tuesday’s opener, but the C’s pushed across a pair of runs in the late innings to grab a 2-0 win at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
After uncharacteristically walking five in his last start, Redner got back to doing what he does best: throwing strikes and forcing action. He gave up four hits in his best start as a professional and struck out three, neither walking anyone nor hitting a Vancouver batter with a pitch. The Seffner, Florida native threw 74 pitches, 55 for strikes and received a no-decision.
They did draw three walks against Canadians starter Troy Guthrie in his five innings of work, for which he also received a no-decision. Offensively, it took until the 6th inning for Tri-City to get a hit, when SS Kendrey Maduro looped a two-out single to center. 1B Ryan Nicholson followed with a single of his own that hopped its way off a glove and through the infield, but the rally wound end there.
Canadians 3B Maddox Latta would end up scoring the first run of the night in the bottom of the 7th, drawing a leadoff walk from reliever Luke Cooper (0-2) and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. C Edward Duran followed with a hard grounder just inside the first base bag and down the right field line for an RBI single that scored Latta. Though thrown out after rounding first too far, Duran had given Vancouver the lead.
The Dust Devils had two chances with a runner at second after CF Gage Harrelson legged out an infield hit to lead off the top of the 8th, but C’s reliever Gilberto Batista (6-4) escaped on the way to a win. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th gave Vancouver an insurance run, and Tri-City could not muster the two runs required in the 9th. Reece Wissinger secured the final three outs for the save.
DUST DEVILS NOTES
-In what was a true pitchers’ duel the teams combined for 12 hits on the night, all singles. Tri-City has played seven games this season in which they did not get an extra-base hit. They hold a 2-5 record in those games, three of which have come on the 11th of the month.
-The Dust Devils and Tuesdays have not gotten along in 2026, with the baseballing sons of Pasco, Kennewick and Richland 6-12 in six-game series openers.
-Tuesday in the Northwest League began with the Hillsboro Hops holding on for a 5-4 win over the Eugene Emeralds at Hops Ballpark and ended with the Everett AquaSox running away with a 16-2 blowout of the Spokane Indians at Everett Memorial Stadium. Tri-City now sits three games out of the Second Half playoff spot. Everett remained a game out of playoff position with their win, sending Spokane behind them to 1.5 games out. Hillsboro remained four games back with their victory.

Tri-City and Vancouver line up for game two of their six-game series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. Right-hander Dylan Jordan (0-1, 15.75 ERA) takes the hill for the Dust Devils, looking to rebound from a tough first start at the High-A level last week. Right-hander Landen Maroudis (2-9, 6.12 ERA), a familiar foe, will counter for the Canadians.
