Manchester, N.H. - Despite the best efforts of Eastern League Player of the Week Reese McGuire, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped a 4-1 decision to the Hartford Yard Goats on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
McGuire, one of the top rated catching prospects in baseball, threw out three would-be base stealers and hit a solo home run to break up a shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning.
It was his fourth homer in his last seven games. Conner Greene (L, 5-10) held the Yard Goats to four runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 6.2 innings, but was out-dueled by Konner Wade (W, W, 8-7), who was selected six picks ahead of him in the 7th round of the 2013 MLB draft. Wade tossed seven shutout innings, allowing six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Hartford took the lead with an RBI groundout from Drew Weeks in the top of the third, and the eventual game-winning run came on a leadoff homer from Jan Vázquez in the seventh. The Yard Goats made it 3-0 with an RBI single from Omar Carrizales later in the inning, and a wild pitch from Justin Shafer brought home a fourth run to cap the rally.
The homestand continues with Atlas Fireworks on Saturday, and a pre-game balloon sword fight and Kids Run the Bases for Sunday's home season finale at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. LHP Ryan Borucki (1-3, 2.29 ERA) is scheduled to toe the rubber for New Hampshire on Saturday, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
