Reilly Logs Longest Start of Career as Baysox Fall Late to Sea Dogs on Saturday

Bowie, MD (September 5, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell to the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, by a 6-4 final on Saturday night.

Chesapeake (34-27, 63-66) received a career-long start from right-handed starter Pat Reilly. Reilly allowed three early hits on Saturday night, but thanks to a caught stealing in the first, and a pair of ground ball double plays in the third and fourth to face the minimum through seven innings. Reilly matched a Double-A career best with eight strikeouts.

The Baysox scored four runs in the opening two frames on Saturday. Two batters in to the bottom of the first inning, Wehiwa Aloy walloped an opposite-field solo homer to right field. It was Aloy’s ninth home run with the Baysox in 34 games and his 24th of the minor league season.

In the second, Dom Keegan and Griff O’Ferrall reached via a hit by pitch and walk. On a two out infield hit from Fernando Peguero, a throwing error brought home a run. Frederick Bencosme then lashed a two-run double into right-center field to extend the lead to 4-0.

Reilly re-entered for the top of the eighth. After a leadoff walk, a two-run homer from Portland’s Ronald Rosario made it a 4-2 game and ended Reilly’s night. Right-hander Bradley Brehmer entered out of the Chesapeake bullpen. Brehmer (L, 0-1) recorded one out, but a walk and three hits, including a go-ahead, two-run single from Tyler McDonough, put the Sea Dogs ahead 5-4. Portland scored an additional run in the frame on a single from Brooks Brannon.

The Baysox were held to one hit after the third inning on Saturday. Right-hander Steven Brooks (W, 1-1) tossed an inning and two-thirds scoreless relief out of the bullpen after five innings from right-handed starter Alex Bouchard.

In the ninth inning, Chesapeake put the tying runs on via an O’Ferrall single and a Vance Honeycutt pinch-hit walk, but three-consecutive hitters retired by Sea Dogs southpaw Erik Rivera (S, 4) dashed any Baysox comeback hopes.

Chesapeake concludes its home slate in the 2026 regular season when it wraps up the six-game series with Portland on Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Sebastian Gongora (9-6, 3.46 ERA) is set to start for the Baysox First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 1:05 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
