Reno, Nev. – The Reno Aces (10-10) begin their first two-week homestand of the 2023 season as they host the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (7-13), Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, for a six-game series starting on Tuesday, April 25th at Greater Nevada Field.

The six-game series features two teams heading in opposite directions. Reno pitched exceptionally well in a resounding road series win over the Salt Lake Bees, while Sugar Land struggled with the Las Vegas Aviators at home.

Reno’s bullpen combined for a 0.84 ERA in 21 ⅓ innings of work in Salt Lake, steadying the ship after early season troubles. The Aces also received four quality starts from Tommy Henry, Blake Walston, Brandon Pfaadt, and Slade Cecconi.

Sugar Land ranks near the bottom of Triple-A in most offensive categories. The Space Cowboys entered Sunday with the lowest number of runs scored (71) and second-lowest OPS (.691) among all 30 teams.

A pair of top prospects to look out for with the Space Cowboys in town are outfielder Pedro Leon and catcher Korey Lee. Leon, who was signed out of Cuba in 2020, is Houston’s No. 6 prospect by Baseball America, while Lee is the club’s 2019 1st Rd. selection sits No. 7 by the publication.

The Space Cowboys pitching staff has been much steadier, ranking near the middle of the pack in team ERA. Sugar Land is 4-5 on the road arms rank 4th in the PCL away from Constellation Field in ERA at 5.45 (47 ER/77.2 IP). With the way the Aces’ lineup has been hitting, Sugar Land will have a real challenge ahead with Reno’s lineup.

The Aces enter the series leading Triple-A in batting average (.300) and are the only team in the level that is hitting above .300, heading into the final week of April. Reno’s offense also paces the PCL in OPS (.873), with the club second in Triple-A behind Rochester.

Phillip Evans (.439) and Buddy Kennedy (.393) rank one and two in Triple-A in batting average, while Kennedy sits atop the level in OBP (.553), and Evans is nipping on his heels in third place at .538.

The Aces offense also has three bats riding hitting streaks entering the series, as Emmanuel Rivera’s 12-game hit streak is the active leader of the Pacific Coast League. Kennedy is second in the PCL with an eight-game hitting streak, and Evans is batting .636 during his season-high six-game streak.

Warm weather and a surging Aces club could create a great atmosphere at Greater Nevada Field. The six-game set begins Tuesday, with the first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. PT.
