RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (26-18, 61-58) swept the El Paso Chihuahuas, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres (15-30, 46-74), in a six-game series this past week at Southwest University Park. Reno outscored El Paso 52-to-31.

Reno started the series with a united front, taking down El Paso on Tuesday with a 12-3 victory. The game was highlighted by three RBI performances from Albert Almora and Kyle Garlick. Almora collected three doubles in the win, and Garlick smashed his first of three home runs in the series. Every member of the starting nine collected a knock, and eight out of nine drove in at least one run. Logan Allen was solid on the bump, allowing two runs in five frames with one strikeout and four walks.

Tristin English’s four-hit effort helped deliver an 8-4 victory on Wednesday night. The 27-year-old brought two doubles and a home run with two RBI in the win. Pavin Smith added to his monstrous month of August with his 12th big fly on Wednesday, a two-run, 422-foot shot.

The long ball led Reno to an 11-8 win on Thursday as Alek Thomas, Jorge Barrosa, and Smith and English each roped round-trippers on back-to-back nights. English got it started with a three-run bomb into left field in the first frame. He completed the night going 3-for-5 with four RBI after doubling in Garlick later in the matchup. Barrosa added to the scoreboard with his fifth four-bagger of the campaign in the fourth, and Smith trailed him deeper into the inning with a three-run big fly to advance Reno’s lead. Thomas completed the 11-run explosion with his first home run as a member of the Aces in the fifth, a two-run bell tater into centerfield.

Following an 11-run lead, Reno’s offense went quiet in Friday’s 4-2 win as Garlick supplied most of their run production with his 24th home run of the year, a three-run bomb down the left field line in the first. Reno’s pitching, however, held it down as the staff limited El Paso to only two runs with eight punchouts. Scott McGough closed out the win with his fourth save of the campaign in a clean final frame.

Pavin Smith led a late comeback in Saturday’s 6-4 battle, driving in Sergio Alcantara and Alek Thomas in the seventh with a clutch base knock to put Reno up 5-4. Andrew Knizner added a much-needed insurance run with a line-drive home run in the eighth, his second of the season. After Blake Walston left after 5 1/3 innings, the bullpen showed resilience, shutting it down and combining for 3 2/3 scoreless frames with two walks and five punchouts.

A huge round-tripper led Sunday’s series finale by Kyle Garlick. Down 9-10 in the eighth, the California- native smashed his 25th home run into center field to put his squad up late, ultimately securing the series sweep. Bryson Brigman had an incredible day at the plate, putting Reno up big with a three-run dinger into center in the first and smacking a two-RBI double an inning later. Andrew Knizner registered his best day as a member of the Aces, going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI.

Brigman quietly produced his best season series, going 9-for-19 (.474) with seven RBI. The utility man stayed hot with the positive series, extending his hitting streak to eleven games where he has collected 21 hits in 39 at-bats (.538) with three home runs and 15 RBI. He’ll look to keep things rolling in next week’s series vs the Las Vegas Aviators.

The Aces will return to Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, August 20, to host the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PT.
