The Reno Aces and Tacoma Rainiers matched up for the second time this season and played a six-game series at Greater Nevada Field. Both teams won three games apiece in the series, and Reno improved their record to 7-5 against Tacoma this season.

After a three-game losing skid, the Aces bounced back Friday with an 8-3 win over the Rainiers. Corbin Martin took the bump and recorded a quality start for the Aces. The Hempstead, Texas native, tossed six innings of two-run ball on four hits and struck out four batters to earn his third win of the season. The bats were bopping for Reno as the starting nine collected a season-high 15 hits. Dominic Fletcher (4-for-5, 2B, RBI, 3 R) led the charge with his second four-hit game as a Reno Ace. The one-two punch of Stone Garrett and Drew Ellis combined for a 3-for-7 night at the plate with a double, triple and five RBI.

Saturday, the momentum remained on the Aces’ side with a 6-2 victory against the Rainiers. Seth Beer and Garrett supplied the lumber with a pair of homers and a combined four-RBI night. The toughest out at the plate for Reno was Dominic Canzone (3-for-3, 2 R, BB), who recorded his second three-hit game in an Aces uniform this season. Ryne Nelson started on the mound for Reno and earned his fourth win after tossing a season-high 5.1 innings pitched, allowing two earned runs on four hits and struck out eight batters. Nelson has won four of his last five starts.

In the series finale, Sunday afternoon’s contest ended dramatically. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, a two-run walk-off single from Canzone gave the Aces a 6-5 win to split the series. The Ohio State Buckeye ended the day with a 2-for-3 performance, including a homer, three runs batted in, a run scored and a stolen base. Tommy Henry started the game for the Aces and was brilliant on the mound as he was the first Reno Aces starting pitcher to pitch into the eighth inning this season. In a no-decision, he held Tacoma to three earned runs on six hits and five strikeouts.
