Chance Adams is about to get the next big opportunity of his career.
The Yankees plan to promote their No. 7 prospect to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and have him make his RailRiders debut Monday at home against the Pawtucket Red Sox, according to multiple reports. Baseball America's Josh Norris first reported the coming promotion; the New York Post's Joel Sherman then added details about Adams' debut date.

A 22-year-old right-hander, Adams owns a 1.03 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 35 innings this season for Double-A Trenton. He's held opposing Eastern League batters to a .183 average while posting a 1.09 WHIP. Adams is coming off a breakout 2016 campaign in which he recorded a 2.33 ERA and 0.90 WHIP to go with 144 strikeouts over 127 1/3 innings between Class A Advanced Tampa and Trenton. His .169 average-against was lowest among full-season Minor League hurlers.

The 2015 fifth-rounder entered MLB.com's ranking of the top-100 overall prospects at No. 100 earlier this week, following the graduation of Pirates right-hander Tyler Glasnow. The site gave him plus grades for his mid-90s fastball and slider and above-average grades for his changeup and control.
Adams ranks behind hurlers James Kaprielian and Justus Sheffield in the Yankees system but could leapfrog the former, who underwent Tommy John surgery last month. Adams will be the highest-ranked pitching prospect on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre roster once he joins, displacing No. 21 Chad Green.
