Fresno, CA (Sunday, August 8) – The Fresno Grizzlies (56-28) beat the San Jose Giants (53-31) 4-3 Sunday evening from Chukchansi Park; winning the series 4-2. Of the 24 meetings between the two clubs, 18 of them have been decided by one or two runs. Fresno now holds a three-game advantage over San Jose for the best record in Low-A West.

The Giants took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when Luis Toribio smacked a single to center. In the bottom half, the Grizzlies cut into the deficit after a Trevor Boone homer. The solo shot to left-center field was his third of the series. Casey Schmitt put San Jose up 3-1 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Fresno would once again make it a one-run affair after a Julio Carreras sacrifice fly. In the sixth, the Grizzlies grabbed a 4-3 lead after a Joe Aeilts RBI single and Bladimir Restituyo RBI double. The duo recorded two hits, one RBI and one run apiece.

Fresno’s offense notched a total of 13 hits with nine of the 10 batters providing at least one hit. Eddy Diaz led the charge with three singles. Julio Carreras and Drew Romo both expanded their hit streaks in the triumph. Carreras has a seven-game hit streak and Romo’s is now at 16. Toribio highlighted the Giants lineup with three hits (two for doubles) and a pair of RBI. Jairo Pomares relished the other extra-base hit, a double in the fourth.

Four Grizzlies’ arms combined on the six-hit masterpiece. Case Williams tossed a career-high five innings, allowing five hits, three runs (one earned), walking one and fanning a pair. Tanner Propst (3-1) earned the decision after a scoreless sixth. Noah Gotsis gave up one hit over two strong frames in his Fresno debut and Robinson Hernandez wrapped up the win to secure his Low-A West best 11th save.

Wil Jensen (5-2) suffered the setback after five and one-third innings. He permitted all four runs on eight hits. Relievers Randy Rodriguez and Jesus Tona kept Fresno off the scoreboard. Both squads will appreciate an off day tomorrow before the Grizzlies battle the Stockton Ports from Chukchansi Park on Tuesday.
