Syracuse, NY (June 26, 2018) - The Syracuse Chiefs walked off against the Rochester Red Wings for the second straight night with a 4-3 victory in ten innings on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Matt Reynolds knocked home the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning with a double. Reynolds finished the night with four hits, including two doubles and two RBIs.
Syracuse (32-44) began the bottom of the tenth with the game tied, 3-3, and Bengie González at second base because of new extra-inning rules implemented before the start of this season. Reynolds was the second batter up in the inning, and with one out, the 27-year-old drove a ball to the center-field wall, scoring Gonzalez to give the Chiefs a 4-3 walk-off win.
Chiefs starting pitcher Austin Voth was stellar for Syracuse. On his 26th birthday, Voth threw seven innings while allowing five hits and three runs, but only one of the runs was earned. The right-hander struck out three batters and was efficient with 65 strikes on 102 pitches.
Rochester (36-38) scored the two unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Zack Granite reached on an error, Nick Gordon singled, and Kennys Vargas walked to load the bases. LaMonte Wade Jr then grounded into a double play where Vargas was out at second base and Wade was out at first, but Gordon moved to third, and Granite scored for a 1-0 Red Wings lead. Chris Carter followed with a single to right field, scoring Gordon to give Rochester a 2-0 advantage.
Syracuse got on the board in the bottom of the second. With one out, Matt Reynolds doubled. José Marmolejos followed with a single to put runners on first and third. Moisés Sierra then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Reynolds to cut the Rochester lead to one, 2-1.
The Red Wings regained the lead in the sixth. Carter led off the inning with a 447-foot home run to left-center field. The homer is Carter's sixth of the season with Rochester and put the Red Wings up, 3-2.
Syracuse tied the game in the eighth. With two outs, Jacob Wilson worked a walk. Raudy Read then singled on a fly ball to shallow right field that moved Wilson to third. Reynolds followed with a single that was hit hard up the middle into center field, bringing home Wilson to tie the score, 3-3.
The Chiefs and the Red Wings continue their five-game, four-day series on Wednesday night with the fourth game. RHP Brady Dragmire will start on the mound for Syracuse while RHP Fernando Romero will pitch for Rochester. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
