Riders come up short in 4-3 loss to Sod Poodles

FRISCO, Texas (April 19, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders were dealt a 4-3 loss to the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Saturday night from Riders Field in a game that featured six combined runs in the final three innings.

The Sod Poodles (4-10) struck first in the top of the fourth inning when Jose Fernandez ripped an RBI double to give Amarillo a 1-0 lead.

The RoughRiders (9-5) threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Ian Moller stung a two-run single to give Frisco a 2-1 lead.

Amarillo then took the lead on a two-run single by Fernandez and an RBI single by Jean Walters in the bottom of the eighth.

Down to their final two outs, Frisco provided life when Aaron Zavala tagged a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, his first of the season.

But Sod Poodles reliever Zane Russell retired two of his final three batters to grab the save. Conor Grammes (1-0) earned the win in 0.2 innings of relief in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Riders reliever Skylar Hales (0-1) took the loss, allowing Amarillo's three runs in the top of the eighth.

Amarillo starter Roman Angelo earned the quality start, spinning 6.1 innings of one-run ball. RoughRiders starter Mitch Bratt dealt five strong innings, allowing just one run and fanning six.

Notes to Know:

-Through three starts, Bratt is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 14.2 innings.

-Zavala cranked his first home run since September 14th, 2024, also against Amarillo.

-Daniel Missaki retired all six batters in two scoreless innings of relief, whiffing three-straight batters in the top of the sixth.

The RoughRiders and Sod Poodles close their six-game series on Sunday, April 19th at 4:05 p.m. Frisco’s starter is TBD while Amarillo sends out RHP Jose Cabrera (0-0, 3.27).
