Adams Collects A Double As Part of Two-Hit Day

The Red Wings fell in the series finale to the Syracuse Mets, 8-2, dropping the three-game set in Syracuse, two games to one. 1B Matt Adams paced the Wings offense, logging the only multi-hit performance of the afternoon, while RHP Rico Garcia made his Rochester debut, logging a scoreless inning in the loss.

The Mets jumped out in front in the first inning of the series finale, plating six in the opening frame. DH Luke Voit began the scoring for Syracuse with a base hit that scored Rochester native RF Danny Mendick. A pair of long balls extended the Mets lead to 6-0, starting with a three-run shot off the bat of LF Abraham Almonte, marking his third home run in his last five at-bats. Two batters later, 3B Luke Ritter continued the scoring with a two-run home run of his own.

In the third, former Wing CF Jaylin Davis extended the Syracuse lead to 8-0 on a two-run shot, his 13th of the season. The Wings’ got on the board in the 4th inning, plating a pair of runs. A 1B Matt Adams double down the right field line, followed by an error that allowed RF Blake Rutherford to score. After DH Jacob Nottingham was hit by a pitch, C Drew Millas ripped a single, plating Adams to narrow the Wings’ deficit to six runs. Pitching remained in control from the fifth through the top of the ninth and Rochester dropped their second consecutive series, falling by a score of 8-2.

LHP Anthony Banda took the mound for Rochester and was tagged with the loss, getting the nod for the eighth time this season. Banada worked 0.2 innings, allowing six earned on six hits while striking out two. RHP Tommy Romero followed Banda, working 3.1 innings, his longest outing since 5/29 (which also came against Syracuse). Romero surrendered a pair of runs on three hits, striking out one. RHP Joel Peguero followed with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit before turning it over to RHP Rico Garcia, making his Red Wings debut, worked a scoreless seventh, allowing one hit while striking out one. RHP Andres Machado worked a clean bottom of the eighth striking out a pair.

1B Matt Adams earned Diamond Pro Player of the Game honors Sunday in Syracuse. The series finale saw Adams go 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a walk, accounting for the Wings’ only multi-hit performance of the afternoon. Adams' extra-base hit was his 28th of the season, second-most on the Wings behind Travis Blankenhorn (33).

The Red Wings return home to Innovative Field Tuesday night to begin a six-game set against the Durham Bulls, the first matchup between the two teams since 2019. Rochester will send RHP Wily Peralta to the mound to kick off the series for a Wings team that boasts a 24-19 home record.
