Matt Rose 's second career grand slam proved the decisive blow on Monday as the Birmingham Barons (12-13) took the rubber game of a home series with the Biloxi Shuckers (15-10), 11-7 at Regions Field. The Game 5 win gives the Barons their fourth series victory through five on the 2018 campaign.
"Winning this series is huge, especially after today started," Rose said of his teams historic come-from-behind victory. "I think we have a lot of momentum going into Tennessee, and we're going to come out ready to play."

  • Moments That Mattered: After four hits and a grand slam in the top of the first put Biloxi ahead 7-0, the Barons clawed their way back, starting with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Rose brought the Barons within striking distance in the third, knocking a two-run shot to left to cut the Biloxi lead to 7-4.
  • He Said It: "We tried to take some of the momentum back and just came out swinging," Rose said. "We kept our composure and kept each other in the game. We just kept playing baseball."
  • Turning Points: Birmingham loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth, setting the stage for another Rose homer. This time, the Birmingham slugger rocketed a grand slam over left center to put the Barons ahead 9-7.
  • Quotable: "I've had one grand slam with Cubs back in Low-A, but never anything like this," Rose said.
  • By the Numbers: Rose's grand slam is the first for a Birmingham player this season, while his six RBIs on the day marks a single-game career high. Eleven Barons came to the plate in a monstrous fourth frame that saw six runs come around to score, the most since a six-run inning at Pensacola on April 25. Zack Collins  extended his hitting streak to seven games with a pair of singles. Birmingham outhit Biloxi 18-11
  • Facts and Figures: After giving up seven earned runs in the first, Ian Clarkin  (W, 3-2) shut down the Biloxi lineup over the next four innings. Monday's comeback win marks the second largest since Birmingham overcame a nine-run deficit against Montgomery on May 14, 2011 and the largest in Regions Field history.
  • Up Next: The Barons will take Tuesday off before traveling north for a road series against divisional foe Tennessee starting on Wednesday. Righty Dane Dunning  (1-0, 4.50 ERA) will get the start in the series opener. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
