Burlington, N.C. - The Royals took the rubber match of their series with the Yankees in a 10-5 win on Saturday night.
With one out in the top of the first, Burlington got things started with a Jake Means RBI double and a Vinnie Pasquantino RBI single to put the Royals ahead 2-0 early. Then, in the bottom of the second, the bats truly went off. Jack Gethings smacked an RBI single, Pasquantino scorched a two-run double, and Michael Massey and Burle Dixon hit RBI doubles to give Burlington a 7-0 lead just two innings in.
Yankees left fielder Ryder Green hit a solo homer to right to put Pulaski on the board in the top of the third. However, the Royals answered with three more runs in the bottom half, including a solo blast from Pasquantino for his first home run at home this season to make it 10-1.
The Yankees tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh and one in the top of the ninth, but to no avail.
Burlington starter Angel Zerpa earned the win for tossing five innings which saw him only allow one run on three hits while striking out five. Pulaski starter Leondaro Pestana, who was removed in the bottom of the second due to an injury, took the loss after allowing four runs in 1.1 innings.
The Royals hit the road Sunday for a two game series with the Danville Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
