Summary

Akron first baseman Micah Pries atoned for a third-inning, run-scoring throwing error with a game-tying, ninth-inning leadoff home run – his team-leading 18th of the season – and the RubberDucks added the winning run on a Harrisburg error later in the ninth for a 2-1 win over the Senators and third straight victory at FNB Field Saturday night.

Turning Point

With Harrisburg leading 1-0, right-hander Zach Brzykcy began the ninth inning for the Senators. Pries hit the first pitch of the inning for a game-tying solo home run, 410 feet to right-center field. With one out, second baseman Daniel Schneemann walked. In an 11-pitch at bat, third baseman Raynel Delgado grounded an infield single to third baseman Gilbert Lara, whose errant throw to first base allowed Schneemann to score on the play for Akron’s first lead of the night.

Mound Presence

Right-hander Tanner Burns made his team-leading 20th start of the season and kept the game scoreless until the third inning, when he allowed a leadoff double to second baseman Darren Baker and walked center fielder Robert Hassell III. When designated hitter Wilson Garcia hit a sharp ground ball to Pries, Akron’s first baseman made an errant throw to Burns covering first base, allowing Baker to score. Burns stranded the bases loaded in the inning and lasted 5 2/3 innings while posting a season-high eight strikeouts, allowing four walks and five hits. Left-hander Randy Labaut pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings, and right-hander Mason Hickman went the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his first Double-A win.

Duck Tales

After center fielder Chris Roller hit a leadoff single in the first inning, Harrisburg right-hander Jake Irvin did not allow another hit in 5 2/3 innings, although he walked three batters and struck out eight. Akron left a runner in scoring position against right-hander Steven Fuentes in the sixth and seventh innings and left seven runners overall, going 0-for-10 in at bats with runners in scoring position in the game.
