Turning Point

After dropping Game 1, Akron trailed, 1-0, in the third inning of Game 2. Third baseman Gabriel Rodríguez drew a leadoff walk against left-hander Trenton Wallace. Center fielder Connor Kokx singled to right field with one out. After a passed ball and a 10-pitch at bat, designated hitter José Tena grounded a two-run single to center field. He later stole third base and scored when catcher Bryan Lavastida reached on a throwing error by shortstop Orelvis Martinez.

Mound Presence

In Game 1, right-hander Tommy Mace made his Double-A debut, allowing a solo home run to left fielder Will Robertson in the bottom of the third. In the fourth, he allowed two hits, a walk, and a go-ahead, three-run home run to second baseman Leo Jimenez for a 5-2 Fisher Cats lead. Right-hander Jordan Jones allowed three runs, including a home run to center fielder Zac Cook, in one inning. Right-hander Zach Hart allowed a homer to right fielder Riley Tirotta in two innings of relief. In Game 2, after one inning by right-hander Jack Leftwich, left-hander Erik Sabrowski pitched two perfect innings, right-hander Tanner Burns allowed an unearned run in 2 2/3 innings, and right-hander Bradley Hanner went the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing Cook’s second homer of the doubleheader – the first run against Hanner in seven outings.

Duck Tales

In Game 1, the RubberDucks took a second-inning lead against right-hander Chad Dallas, as left fielder Korey Holland hit an RBI single, and Tena lifted a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. With Akron down, 6-2 in the fifth, Lavastida walked, and Brito and Johnathan Rodríguez hit consecutive homers to cut the deficit to 6-5. Rodríguez added an RBI double, and third baseman Angel Martínez added an RBI single, but Akron never pulled even. In Game 2, Akron grew the lead with a four-run fifth inning. Tena walked, Martínez doubled, Lavastida hit an RBI single, and Brito hit a three-run homer for a 7-1 lead.
