Summary
Bryce Ball’s solo home run and Petey Halpin’s RBI double lead the Akron RubberDucks to the 2-1 come from behind game one win before the Erie SeaWolves struck for four in middle innings to take game two 6-4 and split the doubleheader on Friday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
After tying the game with two in the fifth, Erie pushed ahead in the sixth inning of game two. Luis Santana singled to left field to plate two SeaWolves to go ahead 6-4.
Erie broke the scoreless drought in the top of the fifth in game one, but Akron quickly answered back. Ball opened the inning with a solo home run into Homerville to tie the game 1-1. After back-to-back flyouts, Connor Kokx worked a walk and stole second to put a runner in scoring position with two outs. Halpin lined a double into right field to put the RubberDucks ahead 2-1.

Mound Presence
Jack Leftwich got the game two nod for Akron and ran into some early trouble allowing a run in each of the first two innings. The right-hander settled in only allowing one hit the rest of his outing to finish his night after four innings pitched allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six. Mason Hickman allowed four runs over an inning plus. Tanner Burns followed with a scoreless inning striking out two. Jordan Jones tossed a scoreless seventh with a strikeout.
Will Dion was lights out for the RubberDucks in game one. The left-hander allowed just three base runners and one unearned run over four and third innings with three strikeouts. Bradley Hanner struck out two over a scoreless 2.2 innings pitched.
Duck Tales
Akron’s offense got going in the second inning of game two. Gabriel Rodriguez doubled to right field to plate Micael Ramirez and bring Akron within one at 2-1 Erie. Two batters later, Juan Brito was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game 2-2. In the third inning, Joe Naranjo singled up the middle to plate Aaron Bracho to make it 3-2 RubberDucks. Two batters later, Kokx singled into shallow center to make it 4-2 Akron.
