Turning Point
With Akron leading, 4-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bowie catcher Samuel Basallo and center fielder Jud Fabian hit consecutive singles off left-hander Erik Sabrowski. First baseman John Rhodes then hit an RBI single to left field to make it 4-2. Second baseman Collin Burns put down a sacrifice bunt, and Sabrowski’s errant throw to first base scored another run. After consecutive strikeouts, third baseman Ryan Higgins doubled on a fly ball to the right-field wall, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs for a 5-4 Baysox lead.
Mound Presence
Left-hander Rodney Boone worked around two walks and a single in the first two innings. With a 2-0 lead, Boone walked the first two batters of the third, and right-hander Jordan Jones relieved Boone to get three outs, allowing an inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly. Jones also worked around a single and walk to give two more scoreless innings and preserve the 2-1 lead. Sabrowski allowed four runs – one earned – on four hits with two strikeouts in the sixth. Right-handers Ross Carver and Andrew Walters each pitched a scoreless inning.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks opened the scoring against right-hander Alex Pham in the second inning, when first baseman Aaron Bracho and right fielder Alexfri Planez hit consecutive singles, and catcher Micael Ramírez lined a one-out RBI single to left field. In the third inning, left fielder Petey Halpin reached second base after his infield single and a throwing error, advanced to third base on a single by second baseman Christian Cairo, and scored on a ground-ball double play. Bracho led off the sixth against right-hander Kyle Virbitsky with a single, and Tolentino launched a 403-foot, two-run homer to right-center field, making it 4-1. Akron had runners on base in each of the last three innings but did not score.
