Summary

The Altoona Curve struck for three in the ninth to beat the Akron RubberDucks 4-1 on Thursday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

After Akron tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, Altoona struck back in the ninth. Jase Bowen opened the inning with a leadoff walk before coming around to score on a Joe Perez double. Two batters later Carter Bins lined a RBI double of his own before coming around to score on Brenden Dixon double to give the Curve the 4-1 lead.

Mound Presence

Doug Nikhazy got the start for Akron and was lights out allowing just two base runners while striking out six over four scoreless innings. Trey Benton followed allowing one run over two innings with three strikeouts. Tyler Thornton and Davis Sharpe tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth. Jordan Jones struck out two but allowed three in the ninth.

Duck Tales

Akron’s offense was held in check until the eighth inning. Joe Lampe opened the inning with a double before advancing to third on a flyout. Alexfri Planez lifted a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to score Lampe and tie the game 1-1.
