SALT LAKE CITY The Sacramento River Cats struggled to sustain any offense against Salt Lake on Friday, suffering their sixth shutout loss of the season as Salt Lake strode to a 6-0 win.

In the bottom of the first the Bees (28-44) took their first lead, plating two when former San Francisco Giant J.D. Davis singled up the middle that scored a pair of runs. Salt Lake doubled their lead in the fourth, starting when Ben Gamel led the inning with his fourth homer of the season and second in as many games. Later the Bees executed a double steal that saw Tucker Flint cross the plate on the back end.

Insurance came in each the seventh and eighth innings, first doing so on a throwing error in the seventh before adding the game’s final tally in the eighth on a Yolmer Sánchez single into center.

Charged with the loss for the River Cats (35-38) was Mason Black (1-5), allowing four runs (three earned) on a trio of hits over six innings.

Only Bryce Eldridge produced multiple hits, his second straight and third time in the past four games, finishing his night 2-for-4 with a double. Luis Matos also notched a double as his only hit in a 1-for-4 effort, and Devin Mann closed the game 1-for-3.

The series is now even at two games apiece, and the River Cats will look to regain the advantage in game four of the series on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. (PT).
