Just as CJ Abrams was getting comfortable with his new surroundings in Fort Wayne, he'll have to wait a few days to see the field again.
The fifth-ranked Padres prospect has been placed on the seven-day injured list by the TinCaps, retroactive to Thursday, due to a left shoulder contusion. Promoted from the Rookie-level Arizona League on Tuesday, he was 2-for-8 with a stolen base in two Midwest League games.

MLB.com's No. 48 overall prospect lit up the AZL. In 32 games, Abrams hit .401/.442/.662 with three homers, eight triples, 12 doubles, 22 RBIs, 14 steals and 40 runs scored. He still leads the circuit in batting, triples and hits (57) and ranks second with a 1.104 OPS.

The shortstop was the sixth overall pick in this year's Draft and it took the 18-year-old shortstop no time to adjust to professional baseball as he raked for a .489 batting average in 10 games in June and hit safely in his first 20 games with the AZL Padres.
A speedster, Abrams is expected to become a proficient basestealer. His speed also helps him beat out bunts and ground balls for singles. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, scouts say he needs to add some weight to his frame, but he still has the ability to produce some long balls as well as hit for average.
