ABERDEEN, MD - The Pinckney Division-leading Mahoning Valley Scrappers (24-13) earned its tenth series win (10-2-1) of the season over the Brooklyn Cyclones this past week. ABERDEEN, MD - The Pinckney Division-leading Mahoning Valley Scrappers (24-13) earned its tenth series win (10-2-1) of the season over the Brooklyn Cyclones this past week. Holding the second-best record in the New York Penn League, the Scrappers open a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles affiliate Aberdeen IronBirds (15-22) on Friday at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

Tale of the Tape


Mahoning Valley trails the Hudson Valley Renegades (25-13) by 0.5 games for the league's best record. They lead the Pinckney Division by 5.0 games over the Auburn Doubledays (19-18) and by 8.5 games over the Batavia Muchdogs (16-22). Meanwhile, Aberdeen is chasing three teams, including Hudson Valley, in front of them in the McNamara Division. Aberdeen checks into Friday 9.5 games bacl of the Renegades, and they are 5.5 games back of the Staten Island Yankees for the league's Wild Card spot.
Aberdeen features three Orioles selections from the first ten rounds of the 2018 MLB Draft. Fifth-round pick (No. 145 overall) OF Robert Neustrom is batting .223 with a home run and 9 RBI in 31 games. Eighth-round pick RHP Ryan Conroy has given up three earned runs in 8.1 innings (3.24 ERA) and ninth rounder LHP Kevin Magee checks in with a 1.56 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched. 
Scrappers infielder Tyler Freemn takes an eight-game hitting streak into Friday's game. Freeman leads the NYPL in batting average (.372), hits (51) and doubles (14), and ranks in the top-five in runs scored (26), RBI (23), total bases (69), OBP (.425), SLG (.504), and OPS (.928). Outfielder Hosea Nelson was named the NYPL's Hitter of the Week on Tuesday after batting .440 in six games last week. He has cooled off since, going 2-for-11 (.182) in three games versus Brooklyn.
