Sea Dogs Fall Short in 3-2 Loss to Reading

Reading, Pennsylvania- The Portland Sea Dogs (28-31, 68-60) drop second-straight with 3-2 final to the Reading Fightin Phils (28-31, 55-71) on Wednesday night.

Kyle Teel recorded his second RBI single in as many days to put the Sea Dogs on the board in the top of the seventh while Blaze Jordan recorded a multi-hit day going two-for-four at the plate. Jacob Webb retired the three batters he faced with a pair of strikeouts to relieve in the eighth.

A pitcher’s duel kept the ballgame scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. Marcus Lee Sang would put Reading on the board first with a two-run homer and the Fightin’s led 2-0.

Teel put Portland on the board in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to score Chase Meidroth who reached with a single of his own. A sacrifice fly to right field from Phillip Sikes would score Nathan Hickey to tie the game at two.

Reading regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth after an RBI double off the bat of Ethan Wilson would score Oliver Dunn. Despite having runners on the corner in the top of the ninth, the score stood 3-2.

Reading reliever RHP Dominic Pipkin (2-2, 3.66 ERA) earned the win after pitching a perfect 1.0 inning with a strikeout. Tristan Garnett (1) was awarded the save after a scoreless ninth allowing two hits while walking one and striking out one. The loss was issued to Portland reliever RHP Wyatt Olds (0-6, 8.64 ERA) after pitching 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit while walking one and striking out one.

The Sea Dogs return to FirstEnergy Stadium tomorrow, September 7th for game three of a six-game series against the Reading Fightin’ Phils. First pitch for game three is slated for 6:45pm. Portland will start RHP Isaac Coffey (6-3, 3.51 ERA) while Reading will give the ball to RHP Matt Osterburg (1-1, 4.71 ERA).
