Sellout Crowd Cheers Dust Devils to Late Win

PASCO – 3B Harold Coll’s 8^th inning RBI single gave the Tri-City Dust Devils (28-37 2H, 63-68) a late lead, and 2B David Mershon’s two-run triple provided thorough insurance in a 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canadians (37-28 2H, 64-67) in front of a full house of 3,676 fans Saturday night at Gesa Stadium.

Most of the game’s scoring came late due to strong starting pitching performances from Tri-City’s Chase Shores and Vancouver’s Silvano Hechavarria. Shores gave up a two-run home run in the top of the 1^st to Canadians C Ryan Sprock but held the line from there, going 6.2 innings and striking out eight in his longest start as a professional. Hechavarria gave the visitors a quality start, allowing only one run on five hits in six innings of work.

That run came for the Dust Devils in the bottom of the 3^rd, after CF Hayden Alvarez singled and reached second on a pickoff throwing error by Hechavarria. Alvarez then stole third with two out, coming in easily on SS Kendrey Maduro’s RBI double to right center to make it a 2-1 game through three innings.

The score stayed there to the bottom of the 7^th, where LF Jonny McGill drew a two-out walk and stole second to get into scoring position for C Alberto Rios. The righty then pulled a double to the left center gap, scoring McGill to tie the game at 2-2, and came in on an RBI single by Alvarez that gave Tri-City a 3-2 lead going to the 8^th.

Sprock struck again for Vancouver in the 8^th, doubling to the same gap to score Dust Devil alum DH David Calabrese, who continued his monster week for the Canadians. The 3-3 tie would not last long, though, with Coll’s single off reliever Bradley Wilson (0-1) putting Tri-City back in front at 4-3 before Mershon’s triple closed the scoring.

Dust Devils closer Sam Tookoian (3-3) gave up the game-tying hit in the 8^th but retired Vancouver 1-2-3 in the 9^th, grabbing the win as a result.

DUST DEVILS NOTES

-Kendrey Maduro’s single extended his hitting streak to 13 games in a row, matching the longest streaks of the season (Jorge Ruiz, twice). Also, Alberto Rios’s 7^th inning RBI double pushed his hit streak to ten games and his on-base streak to 20 in a row. The on-base streak stands as the fourth longest by a Dust Devil this year, with Harold Coll reaching in 26 straight games earlier this summer.

-Tri-City had only one inning (the 4^th) Saturday night in which a runner did not reach base and had hits in six of the eight innings they came to the plate.

-On Saturday night in the Northwest League the Eugene Emeralds scored twice in the top of the 9^th to beat the Hillsboro Hops 5-4 at Hops Ballpark, giving them a half-game lead over Vancouver in the battle for the best record in the Second Half. The Everett AquaSox beat the Spokane Indians 6-4 at Avista Stadium, clinching a road series win to close out their 2026 campaign.

END OF THE LINE

Tri-City plays its final game of the 2026 season at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Gesa Stadium, hosting Vancouver in the both the six-game series and regular season finale. In a change to the rotation right-hander Luke Schafer (3-2, 4.63 ERA) will get the start for the Dust Devils. Left-hander Connor O’Halloran (1-0, 4.42 ERA), who threw four innings of one-run, one-hit ball Tuesday night, will make his second start of the week for the Canadians.
