*KANNAPOLIS, NC: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (12-15) suffered their third straight loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (14-14) on Friday night as they lost 5-1.

The Cannon Ballers scored the first run of the game in the opening inning on an RBI groundout by Chris Lanzilli, to make it 1-0 Kannapolis.

But Luis Gonzalez would even things up in the third as he cranked his first home run of the season over the right-field wall to make it a 1-1 game.

Kannapolis, however, would quickly get the lead back on a two-run single by Bryce Willits in the bottom half of the inning to give the Ballers a 3-1 edge.

They'd add one more to their advantage in the fifth on an RBI single by Chris Lanzili to score Wilits from second base, putting Delmarva behind 4-1.

Juan Rojas, who was recently called up on Tuesday entered for his Shorebirds debut in the sixth inning and the lefty would impress as he struck out four across three innings, allowing just one base runner but the one man who reached was Brooks Baldwin who homered on him to start the eighth, extending the Kannapolis lead to 5-1.

The pitching staff for the Cannon Ballers would handle the Shorebirds for the rest of the night as they held off the Shorebirds to win their third in a row, taking Friday's game by a score of 5-1.

Manuel Veloz (9-1) earned the win in relief with starter Zack Showalter (0-2) taking the loss as the starter for Delmarva.

The Shorebirds will now look to stop a three-game losing streak on Saturday night as they send Deivy Cruz to the mound to face fellow left-hander, Noah Schultz for Kannapolis with first pitch slated for 7:00 p.m.
