Cannon Ballers Take Five of Six Against Delmarva
*KANNAPOLIS, NC: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (12-17) fell one run short to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (16-14) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 2-1.
After a scoreless first four innings of the game, Delmarva scored the game's first run on an infield single by Erison Placencia. His swinging bunt down the first base line caught the Cannon Ballers by surprise as Adam Crampton snuck home from second base on the play to give Delmarva a 1-0 lead.
But Kannapolis would get that run back in the bottom half of the inning on a bloop single into left field by Mario Camiilletti to even the score at one after five innings.
Delmarva would then fall behind in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Drake Logan to give the Cannon Ballers a 2-1 advantage.
The Shorebirds would put together their best threat to snatch the lead away in the eighth as they loaded the bases with two outs for Adam Crampton. Crampton would hit a screaming liner but it was hit right at Kannapolis shortstop Wilber Sanchez, he'd make the catch to end the inning with Delmarva still behind.
Luis Gonzelez would put himself aboard as the tying run in the ninth with a two-out single, however, Kannapolis closer Billy Seidl would strike out Stiven Acevedo to end the game, handing Delmarva its fifth straight loss as they fell 2-1.
Ben Beutel (3-0) earned the win in relief for the Cannon Ballers with Alejandro Mendez (2-1) taking the defeat for the Shorebirds. Billy Seidl (11) picked up his second save of the week by recording the final three outs.
The 'Birds now return home as they look to get back on track starting on Tuesday as they host the Lynchburg Hillcats with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
