Five-Run First Inning Guides Delmarva to Victory
SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (39-72, 16-29) bounced back Thursday night with a 7-3 win over the Salem RidgeYaks (48-61, 23-21).
The Shorebirds came out hot, scoring five runs in the first inning, starting with a wild pitch that allowed Ty Head to touch home. Jaiden Lo Re then tripled home a run to make it 2-0. Jhomnardo Reyes brought Lo Re home with a three-bagger of his own to extend the lead to 3-0. Miguel Rodriguez (2) capped the inning with a two-run homer, putting the Shorebirds on top 5-0.
The RidgeYaks got two of the runs back in the top of the second on a two-run double by Andruw Musett, making it 5-2.
Delmarva answered both of those runs immediately in the bottom half with a run-scoring groundout from Stiven Martinez and an RBI single from Jaiden Lo Re, going back up by five at 7-2.
It stayed 7-2 into the sixth until Andruw Musett brought another run home with his second double of the game, cutting Delmarva's lead to 7-3.
The Shorebirds rode strong pitching to the finish line, as Holden deJong and Jake Dykhoff each threw four innings for Delmarva, with Brendan Parks getting the final three outs in the ninth to secure a 7-3 win over the RidgeYaks.
Jake Dykhoff (1-1) earned the win in relief for Delmarva, while Williams Montero (0-2) took the loss for Salem.
The series with the RidgeYaks continues on Friday, with Harrison Kreiling taking the mound for his home debut against Leighton Finley for Salem. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
