Jaiden Lo Re's Bases-Clearing Double Pushes Delmarva Over the Top
HICKORY, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (42-74, 19-31) rebounded against the Hickory Crawdads (67-46, 33-16) on Wednesday with a 9-5 win.
The Crawdads scored first in the opening inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Yolfran Castillo, making it 1-0.
The lead grew to 2-0 in the second on an RBI single by Curley Martha.
Delmarva scored their first run on a groundout by Eric Booth Jr., plating Joshua Liranzo and pulling the Shorebirds within a 2-1 margin.
In the fourth, Stiven Martinez (11) tied the game with a solo home run to lead off the inning. Miguel Rodriguez then brought home two runs on an error by Kolby Branch, giving the Shorebirds their first lead at 4-2.
Hickory quickly came back and tied the game in the home half of the fourth with RBIs by Deward Tovar and Curley Martha to square the game at four.
An inning later, Delmarva reclaimed the lead on a single by Jhomnardo Reyes with an error on the play allowing Stiven Martinez to score from first, giving the Shorebirds a 5-4 advantage.
It remained 5-4 until the Crawdads tied it in the seventh with a two-out RBI single by Yolfran Castillo, leveling the game at five.
With the game tied at five in the final inning, the Delmarva offense delivered the final punch, beginning with a bases-clearing double by Jaiden Lo Re to give the Shorebirds an 8-5 lead. Jimmy Anderson followed with an RBI double to give Delmarva its largest lead at 9-5.
Jake Dykhoff carried the Shorebirds to the finish line by throwing 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one unearned run in a 9-5 win to even the series.
The win was awarded to Jake Dykhoff (2-1) in relief, with JD McReynolds (6-3) taking the loss for Hickory.
The Shorebirds go for back-to-back wins and the series lead on Thursday, with Harrison Kreiling taking the mound against Evan Siary for the Crawdads, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM.
