Fredericksburg Wins Series with Third Shutout Over Delmarva
SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (44-82, 21-39) were defeated 11-0 by the Fredericksburg Nationals (74-51, 28-31) on Sunday in the home finale at Perdue Stadium.
The Fred Nats jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning, using a sacrifice fly by Jordan Williams and a two-run homer by Hunter Hines (13) to take a 3-0 advantage.
With the score still 3-0 in the fifth, Fredericksburg extended their lead with a sacrifice fly by Juan Cruz that scored Jordan Williams, making it 4-0.
In the seventh, the Fred Nats broke the game open by scoring five runs on five hits in a bat around inning to put Delmarva behind 9-0.
An RBI groundout by Juan Cruz in the eighth scored Coy James, who led off the inning with a triple, extending Fredericksburg's lead to 10-0.
Dashyll Tejeda made it an 11-0 game with a run-scoring fielder's choice in the ninth inning.
Delmarva's offense never got going against Fredericksburg's pitching staff and was shut out for the third time this week, falling 11-0.
Alexander Meckley (5-4) earned the win in relief for Fredericksburg, with Holden deJong (0-2) taking the loss.
The Shorebirds begin their final series of the regular season on Tuesday as they face the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers for six games at Atrium Health Ballpark. First pitch for the opening game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
