Chace and De Leon Dominate Again

*KANNAPOLIS, NC: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (12-12) snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday night as topped the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (11-14) by a score of 5-1.

It took just one pitch for Stiven Acevedo to give Delmarva the lead as he ambushed the first pitch of the game over the left field wall to make it 1-0 Shorebirds.

The Cannon Ballers would get that run back in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Jhoneiker Betancourt to even the game at one after an inning.

Stiven Acevedo would put the 'Birds back in front in his next at-bat as he scored Luis Gonzalez from third on a sacrifice fly to center to make it a 2-1 game in favor of Delmarva.

Starting pitcher, Moises Chace delivered another strong outing for Delmarva by dealing four innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits.

With the game still 2-1 in the eighth, Samuel Basallo provided a timely insurance run as he doubled down the right field line to score Stiven Acevedo from first base, upping the Shorebirds' lead to 3-1.

The Delmarva offense would provide two more runs in the ninth on a pair of wild pitches that scored Angel Tejada and Adam Crampton to make it 5-1.

That would prove to be plenty for Luis De Leon who took over in the fifth for Chace and he impressed again by tossing five shutout innings, retiring 15 of 16 batters he faced, allowing just 1 walk and no hits while striking out 8. He carried the Shorebirds to the finish line to cap off a 5-1 victory over Kannapolis in the first game of the series.

Luis De Leon (1-0) earned his first victory in Single-A with Drew McDaniel (3-7) taking the loss for the Cannon Ballers.

Samuel Basallo and Stiven Acevedo were the main catalysts offensively on Tuesday night as Basallo collect three hits, all going for extra bases as he doubled twice with a triple while picking up his 60th RBI of the season. Stiven Acevedo finished the night with two hits, including his leadoff home run on the first pitch of the game. He also scored twice and drove in two runs.
