After falling behind 11-0 in the first two and half innings, the Biloxi Shuckers (15-31) fought back but fell short in 13-10 loss against the Montgomery Biscuits (21-24) on Saturday night at MGM Park. The game took four hours and twelve minutes, the longest nine-inning game in Biloxi Shuckers history.

RHP Bubba Derby (L, 0-1) got the start for the Shuckers and ran into trouble as the first four batters reached. Jonathan Aranda grounded into a fielder’s choice for the first out, but Rene Pinto’s grand slam in the ensuing at bat gave the Biscuits a 4-0 advantage.

Montgomery added four more in the top of the second and three in the top of the third to stretch out to a 11-0 lead. The Shuckers would answer with three runs in bottom of the frame. Gabriel Garcia singled to start the inning and Ryan Aguilar followed with a walk before Cam Devanney double to right, plating both runners to put the Shuckers on the board. The final run of the inning came home on a wild pitch from RHP Adrian De Horta.

After RHP Robbie Hitt tossed two scoreless innings, the Shuckers moved closer to the Biscuits in the bottom of the fifth. Devanney walked to start the inning and Turang followed with a single. After an infield pop out by Luis Castro, Tristen Lutz hit a triple to right, driving in both runners to make it 11-5.

Big hits from the top of the order continued the rally for Biloxi in the bottom of the sixth. With a man on base and two outs, Devanny singled to left and Turang followed with a two-RBI double, pulling Biloxi within four runs at 11-7. Castro roped a single into right that scored Turang, making it an 11-8 ballgame.

The Biscuits added some distance again with two home runs in the top of the eighth inning, regaining a five-run advantage at 13-8. Biloxi loaded the bases with two outs against RHP Alex Valverde (S, 2) in the bottom of the eighth but were unable to push across a run.

The Shuckers didn’t go away quietly, as Chad Spanberger hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, yet again drawing the Shuckers within three at 13-10. Valverde was able to record the last two outs, bringing a close to the game.

Looking to avoid a series sweep, the Shuckers conclude their series with the Biscuits on Sunday afternoon at MGM Park. Biloxi will send RHP Noah Zavolas (2-4, 6.75) to the mound against Biscuits’ RHP Easton McGee (0-0, 2.70) for a 1:05 pm first. Pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be seen on MiLB.TV.
