The Biloxi Shuckers (37-63) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning but were unable to overcome a career night from Janson Junk of the Rocket City Trash Pandas (50-48) in a 4-3 loss on Friday night at MGM Park.

Rocket City took advantage of an error to take the lead in the third. Luis Aviles Jr. reached on a throwing error by Korry Howell and scored when Ray-Patrick Didder tripled to left field, putting the Trash Pandas up 1-0. Orlando Martinez grounded out in the ensuing at bat, driving in Didder to double the Rocket City lead to 2-0.

RHP Jesus Castillo (L, 3-8) didn’t allow another run over his six innings of work. He finished the night by retiring 11 of 12 batters that he faced and surrendered just one earned run during his outing on his 26th birthday.

On the mound for the Trash Pandas, RHP Janson Junk (W, 2-2) did not allow a base runner through his first eight innings of work, striking out eight Shuckers’ hitters in the process.

Rocket City would add on a run in the eighth inning when Aviles singled, moved to second on a groundout, stole third and scored on a passed ball. In the top of the ninth inning, Mitch Nay began the inning with a single and advanced to third on back-to-back wild pitches. Anthony Mulrine singled home Nay with one out, putting Rocket City up 4-0.

Junk returned for the bottom of the ninth inning and gave up his first base runner on a single to left by Tristen Lutz. Chad Spanberger then worked a walk but Junk forced back-to-back flyouts. Howell got to an 0-1 count against the righty and launched a three-run homer to left, his second of the year with Biloxi, to bring the Shuckers within a run at 4-3. LHP Kolton Ingram (S, 2) entered and walked Garrett Mitchell, but David Fry struck out to end the game.

With the series even at two games each, the Shuckers and Trash Pandas continue their series on Saturday afternoon. RHP Justin Bullock (2-3, 7.17) gets the start for the Shuckers against Trash Pandas’ RHP Christopher Molina (4-1, 1.99) for a 5:05 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be seen on MiLB.TV.
