The Montgomery Biscuits (10-16) used a six-run bottom of the second inning to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers (11-16) 9-6 on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

LHP Leo Crawford (L, 1-2) worked around a walk in the first but would run into trouble in the second. Five of the first six batters for Montgomery recorded a hit, plating three to put the Biscuits ahead 3-0. Cal Stevenson delivered the finishing blow in the inning, a three-run homer with two outs, to chase Crawford from the game and give Montgomery a 6-0 advantage.

The Shuckers bats were kept quiet by RHP Shane Baz (W, 1-4), who allowed a double to Brice Turang in the first before retiring the next 11 batters in order. Biloxi’s best chance to score against Baz came in the fifth, when Henry led off the inning with a single and Longo doubled with two outs. However, Baz struck out his eighth batter to strand runners at second and third.

Biloxi mustered a rally in the top of the seventh inning. Lucas Erceg, Payton Henry and Chad Spanberger all singled, loading up the bases for Cam Devanney, who hit a bullet line drive for an out, scoring Erceg on the sacrifice fly. Mitch Longo followed with a single and Tyler Friis worked a walk, loading the bases again for Brice Turang. The shortstop laced a pitch up the middle, driving in two runs to make it 7-4, but RHP Alex Valverde struck out the next batter to end the Shuckers threat.

Montgomery regained a five-run advantage in the bottom of the seventh when two runs scored on a walk, a double and a single, moving the Biscuits back in front 9-4. The Shuckers would score a pair of runs in the top of the ninth on RBI groundouts from Friis and Turang, but RHP Jordan Brink (S,1) polished off the final 2.1 innings for Montgomery to earn the save. All told, Turang finished the night 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI, his eighth multi-hit effort in his last 14 games.

Looking to even the series, the Shuckers send the LHP Nick Bennett (1-0, 4.50) to the mound on Friday night against Biscuits’ LHP Michael Plassmeyer (0-1, 5.49) for a 6:35 pm first pitch at Riverwalk Stadium.
