Modesto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino came back on Sunday night at Modesto with a seven-run two-out outburst for a win to open a series with the Nuts; the Sixers outdid themselves in the series finale on Tuesday scoring nine runs with two outs seventh inning for a 9-8 win and a series victory. With the win, the Sixers finished their seven-game road trip to Stockton and Modesto 5-2 and improved to 46-50 overall and 16-10 in the second half.
Modesto (54-42, 15-11) took a 2-0 lead in the first when Chris Mariscal tagged a two-run homer to center, his seventh of the year, off Sixers starter Luis Pena. The Nuts added three more in the fourth on a RBI double from Joey Curletta and a two-run double from Willie Argo. They made it 6-0 in the sixth when Argo's RBI single brought home an unearned run against reliver Garrett Nuss. Pablo López held the Sixers down for 6.2 innings but was lifted after a two out single to Connor Justus. Nuts reliever Joe Pistorese (0-2) then gave up a double to Jared Walsh, walked Jordan Serena, hit Jake Yacinich and Brennon Lund, gave up an infield single to Keith Grieshaber and a single to Taylor Ward before he was lifted for Art Warren. Warren walked Jordan Zimmerman, gave up a double to Kyle Survance Jr and then a single to Justus who was thrown out at second base for the final out of the inning. The Sixers scored nine times on six hits with two walks and two hit batsmen for their biggest inning of the year and a 9-6 lead. The Nuts got a run back in the seventh and in the ninth Eric Filia's RBI double made it 9-8 and had him in scoring position with one out but Nathan Bates struck a batter out and got a ground ball to end it and secure his fifth save. Lund had his seventh consecutive multi-hit game for the Sixers.
