Sky Sox Drop Series Opener

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox jumped out to an early lead, but the Memphis Redbirds scored four runs in their final two innings to take the series opener, 7-4, in front of 3,645 at AutoZone Park Tuesday night.

Michael Blazek helped his own cause in his first at-bat, lining a two-run, two-out single to right field to score Garrett Cooper and Ivan De Jesus, and give the Sox a 2-0 lead. One batter later, Kyle Wren grounded a single to right field to score Yadiel Rivera to increase the second-inning margin to three runs.
Blazek also turned in a solid pitching performance. The righty allowed two runs while striking out five Redbirds in five innings in his first start since taking his first loss of the season against Round Rock at Security Service Field June 7.
In his first game since his three-homer series against Iowa, Ryan Cordell gave the Sky Sox (37-25) some insurance in the top of the fifth inning, lining a single to centerfield to plate Wren for the center fielder's 42^nd RBI of the season.
