The Colorado Springs Sky Sox dropped the series opener to the New Orleans Baby Cakes, losing 6-4 in 10 innings in front of 4,364 at Security Service Field Friday night.

The Sky Sox (69-45) scored the game's first run for the sixth straight contest to jump ahead 1-0 after one inning of play. Brett Phillips grounded a single past Steve Lombardozzi into right field to score Mauricio Dubón. For the center fielder, the first-inning single off New Orleans starter Scott Copeland extended his current hitting streak to nine games, the longest current streak on the team.
New Orleans (46-71) tied the game with a run in the second inning, but Colorado Springs would re-take the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. With two outs, Chris Colabello grounded a single and Tyler Heineman lofted a double that left fielder Eury Pérez lost in the lights. Yadiel Rivera then lined an opposite-field two-run single on the ensuing pitch to score Colabello and Heineman, giving the Sox a 3-1 lead.
The Cakes scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead, but the Sox responded three batters into the seventh inning before a 14-minute fog delay. Ivan De Jesus blooped a one-out single to shallow center field, scoring Kyle Wren to knot the game at four.
Taylor Jungmann took a no-decision, but threw six quality innings of one-run, five-hit ball while striking out five Baby Cakes. The outing was Jungmann's third quality start in his last four games.
The Sox and Baby Cakes continue their four-game series Saturday night at 6 p.m. MT, when RHP Angel Ventura (6-3, 4.01 ERA) takes on LHP Mike Kickham (1-1, 6.23 ERA). Saturday is also Harry Potter Night at Security Service Field, presented by Kaiser Permanente. Characters from Hogwarts will be on hand to greet the fans, while a Harry Potter-themed Fireworks Show follows the conclusion of the game.
