Sky Sox Rally Falls Short In 11-10 Loss

Brett Phillips recorded his first four-hit game of the season, but the New Orleans Baby Cakes scored five runs over the final three innings to come out with an 11-6 win in front of 8,195 at Security Service Field Friday night.

New Orleans put up a five-spot in the top of the second inning, but the Sky Sox (69-46) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 5-2. Chris Colabello lined a two-run double to the left-center field gap, easily scoring Phillips and Nate Orf.
The No. 4 and 5 batters teamed up to produce another run in the fourth inning. After Phillips lined his team-tying 10^th triple of the season to lead off the frame, Orf skied a RBI double to the base of the center field wall. The starting right fielder would come in to score two batters later, when René García launched a deep sacrifice fly to the center field warning track to score Orf and trim the deficit to 5-4.
Colorado Springs took their first lead of the night with a two-run fifth inning on a pair of two-baggers. After Mauricio Dubón stole second base, Ivan De Jesus lined an opposite-field double over the head of right fielder Chad Hinshaw to tie the game. One batter later, Phillips recorded his third hit of the night, blooping a double down the left field line to plate De Jesus and give the Sox their first lead.
The hosts mounted a ninth-inning rally, sending the go-ahead run to the plate during the four-run frame. Nick Noonan led off with a triple and promptly scored one batter later when Perez dropped a Dubon fly ball. Lewis Brinson recorded his first hit of the game by launching a 450-foot two-run home run over the scoreboard to cut the deficit to two. Colabello lined a RBI single to right-centerfield to score Phillips for his third RBI of the night.
The Sox and Cakes begin a stretch of two straight matinees, beginning Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. MT. In honor of the team's 30^th anniversary season, the Sky Sox are giving away Todd Helton bobbleheads to the first 1,000 fans through the Security Service Field gates. It is also another 50-cent hot dog afternoon, thanks to Safeway.
