Sky Sox Shut Out Baby Cakes, 1-0

For the second time in 2017, a single run proved to be enough for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in New Orleans, defeating the Baby Cakes by a 1-0 score in front of 5,557 at the Shrine on Airline Thursday night.

Michael Blazek (3-4, 3.47 ERA) led a stout pitching effort, tossing four innings in relief of Brandon Woodruff to help the Sox achieve their ninth shutout of the season. Tristan Archer, Andrew Barbosa and Rob Scahill (10, 1.19 ERA) combined to shut down the Baby Cakes over the final 2.1 innings.
The hosts had a chance of breaking the scoreboard with the game's first run in the second inning. Mike Kickham grounded a two-out single to right field, but Nate Orf threw out Cal Towey at home on a strike to René García to keep the score tied at zero early on.
The Sky Sox (76-52) broke the deadlock in the sixth inning. Three of the first four batters of the inning reached on singles, capped by Brett Phillips' RBI grounder through the right side of the infield to score Mauricio Dubón. Chris Colabello had a four-hit night from the No. 4 spot in the lineup, his most in a single game since joining the Sky Sox.
Colorado Springs and New Orleans meet up at 6:05 p.m. MT at the Shrine on Airline as the Sox look to inch closer to clinching a spot in the postseason and shrink their current magic number of four. With a win Friday night, the Sox would even the season series with the Baby Cakes at seven with two matchups remaining in the season.
