Sky Sox Take Game One, 4-2

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox got back in the win column, evening their series with the Round Rock Express with a 4-2 win in game one of Thursday's day/night doubleheader at Security Service Field.

The Sky Sox (69-44) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs, Nate Orf won the 7-pitch battle with Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner by lining a RBI single to score Mauricio Dubón on the inning's third single to left fielder Willie Calhoun.
Round Rock (54-62) would tie the game with a run in the top of the third inning, but the Sox responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Kyle Wren led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a towering ground-rule double off the bat of Brett Phillips. One batter later, Ivan De Jesus skied a sacrifice fly to Drew Stubbs in right field to plate Wren and give the Sox a 2-1 lead.
The lead would extend to 3-1 when Chris Colabello came home via a Wagner wild pitch in the fourth inning. Two innings later, after the Express picked up a second run in the top of the sixth inning, the hosts once again responded as Orf trotted home via the second wild pitch of the day for Round Rock pitching.
Junior Guerra took a no-decision, but held the Express to one earned run on five hits over 4.2 innings. Wei-Chung Wang (6-1, 2.19 ERA) picked up the win with an inning of relief, while David Goforth and Rob Scahill (7, 1.15 ERA) threw the final 1.1 innings to secure the win.
RHP Paolo Espino (4-1, 3.72 ERA) takes the mound for the nightcap of the day's twinbill at 6:40 p.m. MT against Round Rock RHP Anthony Bass (1-2, 4.00 ERA). Thursday night is another $3 Thirsty Thursday, featuring discount Colorado Native Golden Lager. The series finale is also the final Military Appreciation Night of the season, which includes an in-game silent auction for the patriotic jerseys worn during the game.
