MIDLAND – Following his walk-off grand slam on Sunday, Scott Schreiber cleared the bases with a clout to left field in sixth inning Tuesday night, helping the Hooks to an 8-1 triumph over the RockHounds at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

Schreiber added a solo blast to right field in the seventh, giving him three home runs and nine RBIs in his last five at-bats. The former Nebraska Cornhusker joins Drew Locke in 2012 as the only players in the club’s 16-year history to belt grand slams in back-to-back ballgames.

Hooks starter Joe Record set the tone early, retiring 15 of the 16 RockHounds he faced, striking out five.

Midland avoided the shutout thanks to a Max Shuemann lead-off home run in the ninth against Hunter Brown, who scattered four hits over 4.0 innings of work.

Brown owns a 2.88 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in his last eight outings.

Corpus Christi mustered a marker in the second on a two-out RBI double by Grae Kessinger.

Following that extra-base hit, Brady Feigl retired nine of 10 before giving way to Montana DuRapau who failed to record an out as the first seven men reached in the Hooks sixth. Corpus Christi sent 12 to bat in the frame, scoring six runs on seven hits and two walks.

Back-to-back doubles by Chandler Taylor and Corey Julks, who both rejoined the club today from West Palm Beach, Fla., capped the rally.

The Hooks, who have claimed five of their last seven, aim for a three-game win streak tomorrow with right-hander Brett Daniels on the mound. First pitch 6:30.
