ROUND ROCK, Texas - In a vote conducted by the Pacific Coast League field managers, El Paso Chihuahuas' first baseman Jamie Romak has been tabbed the April Player of the Month, the League office announced Wednesday. Romak, along with winners from other leagues, will be presented with an award from Minor League Baseball in recognition of his performance last month.
Romak hit .372 (32-for-86) in 22 games during the month, while leading all of Minor League Baseball with 11 home runs, 19 extra-base hits, 74 total bases, an .860 slugging percentage and a 1.274 OPS. He also paced Triple-A with 23 runs scored and drove in 25. Romak is the first PCL player to finish April with at least 11 home runs, 20 extra-base hits and 74 total bases since Iowa's Jake Fox in 2009 (12 home runs, 21 extra-base hits, 79 total bases).
The 31-year-old hit safely in his final 14 games of the month, part of a PCL season-best 15-game hitting streak, in which he amassed eight home runs and 20 RBI during the stretch. Romak was named the PCL Player of the Week for the period of April 17-23 after hitting .478 (11-for-23) with five home runs and 28 total bases. He had two four-hit, four-RBI games in April, in addition to two multi-homer games, the latter of which only one other player in the league has accomplished thus far (Oswaldo Arcia, Reno).

Romak has had a decorated five-year career in the PCL, being named to the 2015 mid- and postseason All-Star teams with Reno, hitting a PCL-best 27 home runs that season, and thrice being named Player of the Week. The slugger has amassed 84 home runs, 298 RBI and 259 runs during stops with Omaha, Memphis, Albuquerque, Reno and El Paso.
The London, Ontario native, who was originally selected by the Braves in the fourth round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, has appeared in 27 MLB contests between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. Romak played the 2016 season with the Yokohoma Bay Stars in the Japanese Central League before returning stateside.
