Lakewood, N.J. (July 7, 2023) — On a historic night at ShoreTown Ballpark, the Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 8-4 on Friday. The loss broke Hudson Valley’s season-high six-game winning streak.

With a leadoff single in the top of the eighth, Eduardo Torrealba became the Renegades All-Time hits leader. He finished 2-for-3 with a double and a walk to collect his 125th and 126th hits with the Renegades, passing Angel Perez (2016-17) for the club record.

The Renegades scratched across a run in the top of the first inning without a hit against Rafael Marcano. Alexander Vargas reached on a two-base throwing error to start the frame, stole third, and scored on an Agustin Ramirez groundout to give Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead.

Zach Messinger faced the minimum through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth. Jersey Shore struck for six runs on four hits, including three home runs to take a commanding 6-1 advantage. Messinger (1-6) allowed long balls to Gabriel Rincones, Jr., Marcus Lee Sang and Leandro Pineda in the frame.

Rixon Wingrove blasted a solo home run in the fifth to widen the gap to 7-1. It was a career-high four home runs allowed by Messinger across 5.1 innings pitched in the contest, with all four coming from left-handed batters.

Hudson Valley edged closer with a two-out rally in the top of the seventh against Rodolfo Sanchez. Christopher Familia drew a walk, and Ramirez unloaded a two-run home run to left. Rafael Flores followed with a walk and Antonio Gomez legged out an infield single to bring Aldenis Sanchez to the plate, who lined a ground rule double to right to score Flores and cut the deficit to 7-4.

The Renegades loaded the bases to bring Marcos Cabrera to the plate representing the go-ahead run, but Konner Ash struck him out to escape the jam.

The BlueClaws tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on back-to-back doubles by Pineda and Anthony Quirion. The Renegades put the leadoff man on base in both the eighth and ninth, but were unable to score in either frame.

POSTGAME NOTES: The four home runs allowed by Messinger was first time that a Renegades pitcher allowed four home runs in a game since online game-by-game records are available starting in 2005.
