Somerset Players Involved In Yankees Trades At The Deadline

Bridgewater, New Jersey – Several current and former Somerset Patriots players were traded by the New York Yankees at this year’s MLB Trade Deadline.

Bridgewater, New Jersey – Several current and former Somerset Patriots players were traded by the New York Yankees at this year’s MLB Trade Deadline.

C/1B Rafael Flores has been delt to the Pittsburgh Pirates for RHP David Bednar. Flores was the Yankees No. 8 prospect at the time, ranking among the organization’s leaders with 104 H (2nd), 177 TB (2nd), 60 RBI (3rd), 23 2B (3rd), 40 XBH (3rd), 16 HR (6th) and 51 R (10th) on the 2025 season. He hit .287/.346/.497 with 15 HR and 56 RBI in 87 games for Somerset earlier this year before a promotion to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 7/19/25.

2B Roc Riggio and LHP Ben Shields were traded to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Jake Bird.

Riggio, the Yankees No. 10 prospect, ranked among the organization’s leaders with 18 HR (T-3rd), .937 OPS (4th), .576 SLG (5th), 33 XBH (7th) and 131 TB (9th). Since his 6/3/25 promotion Double-A Somerset, Riggio has hit .261/.335./.542 with 25 R, 40 H, 10 2B, 11 HR and 28 RBI over 40 games.

Shields was ranked the No. 28 prospect in the Yankees organization and made his return to Somerset off the 60-day injured list on 6/28/25. He was 1-2 with a 3.42 ERA and 26 K over 23.2 IP in five starts for the Patriots this season. Shields was 2-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 65 K over 52 IP over 11 games (9 starts) in Double-A in 2024.

RHP Trystan Vrieling (No. 19 prospect) and C Jesus Rodriguez (No. 25 prospect) were packaged for RHP Camilo Doval from the San Francisco Giants.

Vrieling is 1-2 with a 4.50 and 42 K in 46 IP in 12 games (10 starts) this season. Over parts of two minor league seasons in the Yankees organization (2024-25), the right-handed pitcher has gone 14-9 with a 4.52 ERA and 186 K over 201 IP in 41 games (37 starts).

Rodriguez started the 2025 season in Double-A before a promotion to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 4/13/25. He has combined to hit .300/.390/.404 with 55 R, 14 2B, 3 3B, 5 HR and 43 RBI in 85 games this season.

OF Everson Pereira went to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for INF/OF Jose Caballero. Pereira played in Somerset in 2022 and 2023 before making his MLB debut with the Yankees on 8/22/23. In Somerset, Pereira hit .288/.354/.529 with 45 R, 80 H, 14 2B, 4 3B, 15 HR and 44 RBI in 75 games.

INF Oswald Peraza has also been traded to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league OF Wilberson De Pena and international bonus pool money. Peraza starred in Somerset in 2021 when he was the organization’s No. 4 prospect and hit .294/.348/.466 to go along with 51 R, 96 H, 16 2B, 12 HR, 40 RBI and 20 SB in 79 games. Since his MLB debut on 9/2/22, Peraza has 43 R, 74 H, 16 2B, 7 HR and 30 RBI in 145 games for the Yankees.

Earlier in the week RHP Clayton Beeter was in the deal that brought INF/OF Amed Rosario back to New York. He combined for a 1-1 record with a 4.56 ERA and 42 K in 25.2 IP as a reliever in 23 games in 2025. Since his MLB debut on 3/29/24, Beeter is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and 6 K in 7.1 Major League innings in five games.

RHP Gage Ziehl pitched in one game for Somerset this season and was sent to the Chicago White Sox for LF Austin Slater.

RHP Josh Grosz appeared in a game for Somerset last season and was part of the package for 3B Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies.
