BILOXI, MS -- Mississippi pitchers scattered 13 hits and got timely double plays four times to limit Biloxi (38-34) to only one run, edging out a 2-1 win over the Shuckers in game three of the five game series at MGM Park on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Saturday night.
Mike Soroka pitched six strong innings, giving up only one run on nine hits. He even started the first double play in the second inning on a ball hit back to the mound to get out of a jam. Soroka went 27.1 innings without giving up a run, dating back to May 31, before Biloxi scored with one out in the sixth. Bradley Roney (H,1) and Philip Pfeifer (S, 2) combined to shut out the Shuckers over the last three innings, thus securing Soroka's ninth win of the season.

After both teams went scoreless through five innings, Mississippi (35-38) scored runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. Both runs scored started with walks. With two outs in the sixth, Travis Demeritte walked and scored on a Sal Giardina double. In the seventh, Dylan Moore walked to lead off the inning and took second on a sacrifice fielder's choice by Connor Lien. Moore then scored on Jared James' pinch-hit single.
Biloxi (38-34) scored its only run of the game in the sixth when Dustin Demuth led off with a single to right field. He advanced to second on a base hit from Michael Choice and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. He then scored on Jacob Nottingham's single to right, making it a 2-1 game.
Biloxi threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but the Braves defense stepped up and turned their fourth double play of the night. After a strikeout to start the inning, the Shuckers got a double and a single then an intentional walk to load the bases. Pfeifer then got Demuth to hit into a 4-6-3 double play and secure the win.
Mississippi and Biloxi play game four of the series Sunday at 5:05 PM with Braves LHP Luiz Gohara (1-1) going up against RHP Freddy Peralta, making his first Double-A start for the Shuckers.
