EUGENE, OR – Three hits from Andres Sosa and a go-ahead two-run homer off the bat of Dasan Brown that proved to be the decisive blow were crucial to a 5-2 Canadians win over the Eugene Emeralds (Giants) Sunday at PK Park. The win helped the C’s avoid getting swept in a six-game series for the first time in franchise history.

Trailing 2-0 after the Emeralds scored two runs (one earned) off Canadians starter Jimmy Robbins in the third, the C’s started their comeback in the fifth with a leadoff single from Miguel Hiraldo. Up stepped Sosa, who plated Vancouver’s first run since the seventh inning on Friday night – a 15-frame drought – with an RBI double to right field. Two batters later it was Brown’s turn to come up big. The Oakville, ON native charged an 0-1 pitch from newly inserted reliever Abel Adames (L, 8-3) the opposite way for a go-ahead two-run blast that made it 3-2 Vancouver. The homer was the #27 Blue Jays prospect’s first in High-A.

After Robbins exited following the third, a quartet of Canadians relievers combined to keep the highest-scoring offense in the Northwest League at bay. Justin Kelly (W, 8-2), 2022 draftee Mason Fluharty (H, 1), Garrett Farmer (H, 1) in his first game action since July and Jol Concepcion (S, 7) combined on six scoreless innings of relief with six hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts.

The C’s got some important insurance in the seventh and eighth. Sosa doubled to start the seventh and later scored on a wild pitch before singling home Vancouver’s fifth run of the game in the eighth to make it a three-score advantage.

Seven of nine starters reached base and six had a hit. Three players – Sosa, Damiano Palmegiani and #7 Blue Jays prospect Gabby Martinez – had multiple knocks in the game.

With the win, the C’s leave Eugene 2.5 games out of first place in the second half and are a half game back of a playoff spot in the overall standings. After an off-day Monday, the Canadians square off against the Everett AquaSox on Tuesday night at Funko Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage available on CanadiansBaseball.com and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
