Sounds Crush Jumbo Shrimp in Lopsided Win

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Nashville Sounds crushed the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in a 13-5 win Saturday night at VyStar Ballpark. The offense blew the game wide open highlighted by four different Sounds' hitters blasting a homer.

The Sounds jumped ahead for the second straight night and put up a five-run third as Jacob Hurtubise led off the frame with a walk. After he stole second base, Bo Naylor crushed a two-run homer to right field and gave Nashville the two-run lead. The offense continued to hit their stride with Ethan Murray, drawing the second walk of the frame. Blake Burke was hit by pitch and set up Akil Baddoo to rip a three-run blast to right center field, giving the Sounds a five-run lead. The Jumbo Shrimp quickly cut into the Sounds' lead in the bottom of the third inning as Tate Kuehner allowed a leadoff double by Logan Driscoll to begin the frame. Jared Serna lined an RBI-single into center field and scored Driscoll for the first Jacksonville run of the game. Kuehner allowed his first home run since May 8 against the Louisville Bats on a two-run long ball by Maximo Acosta to left center field as the Nashville lead was cut down to two runs.

In the top of the fourth inning, Hurtubise drew his second walk of the game and gave way for Eduardo Garcia to crush a two-run homer to left center field, his first homer since August 2, and gave the Sounds a 7-3 lead. Kuehner wrapped up his night allowing three runs on three hits and striking out three Jumbo Shrimp hitters in 3.1 innings of work before Kaleb Bowman tossed just four pitches in the bottom of the fourth and secured the double play to get out of the frame.

Bowman's night was done after the fourth as Joel Kuhnel entered the ball game and shut down the Jumbo Shrimp in 1-2-3 fashion, including back-to-back strikeouts to end the bottom half of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Tyson Hardin made his first relief appearance since September 4, 2024, against Single-A Delmarva when he was with the Carolina Mudcats and worked a scoreless frame. Nashville added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning as Hurtubise hit a single into center field for his first hit in over four games. Brandon Lockridge followed by drawing a walk and loading the bases for Naylor who drew the second straight walk of the frame and plated Hurtubise for the 8-3 lead.

The Sounds added five more runs of insurance in the top of the ninth inning as Baddoo led off with his third hit of the night. Jeferson Quero blasted his 14th home run of the season with a two-run homer and grew the lead to seven runs. Garcia and Lockridge got on base with back-to-back singles, setting up Naylor and Murray to knock in three runs total with RBI-doubles and growing the large lead up to 10 runs. The Jumbo Shrimp made the attempt to rally down 10 runs as Kemp Alderman lined a one-out single into right field. Matthew Etzel crushed a two-run home run to center field to make it an eight-run game. After Hardin issued a walk to Logan Driscoll, he retired Serna and Acosta to end the game with a 13-5 Sounds win. Hardin earned his fourth win of the season and allowed two runs on three hits, striking out five hitters.

The Sounds and Jumbo Shrimp will conclude this week's series on Sunday, August 30 at VyStar Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm with LHP Colton Gordon (7-6, 4.08 ERA) making the start for Nashville.

ABSOLUTE BADDOO: Akil Baddoo obliterated his 10th home run of the season for the Sounds on a three-run moonshot to cap off a five-run third inning Saturday night against the Jumbo Shrimp. Baddoo finished his night going 3-for-4 with three RBI, a walk and two runs. Baddoo leads the team with the most 3+ RBI games (7) this season ahead of Jeferson Quero and Brock Wilken (6), Tyler Black, Eddys Leonard and Cooper Pratt (4). He is the 4th different Sound on the team to have four 3-RBI games this season with Quero and Wilken. Baddoo recorded his 11th multi-hit game of the season for the Sounds and was his second 2+ hit game this week. He has hit a .324 average (11-for-34), added five XBH and has put up nine RBI against the Jumbo Shrimp, which ties Brock Wilken and Luis Matos for the most RBI against Jacksonville this season.

ROW YOUR BO: Bo Naylor crushed his fourth homer of the season for the Sounds, his 11th overall this season at the Triple-A level (7 w/COL), on a two-run blast in the top of the third inning. Naylor finished his night going 2-for-5 with four RBI, a walk and two runs. Naylor has posted an RBI in four consecutive games since Tuesday and is the 9th different Sounds hitter to record at least one RBI in four or more consecutive games this season. This is the second time Naylor has recorded an RBI streak of four games. He is one of two players (Luis Lara) to have multiple RBI streaks of four games and to do so in 14 games. The 4-RBI night marked his first this season for the Sounds and his 12th career 4+ RBI night since 2018. He extended his hit streak to nine consecutive games with Nashville and got on base in 10 straight as well. He has posted a homer in 3-of-the-last-8 games played, including back-to-back homers on August 14-16 against Indianapolis. The four RBI is the 107th multi-RBI game since the start of his professional career in 2018.

FOUR LOCO: In his third game back from injury, Eduardo Garcia hammered a two-run homer to left center field in Saturday night's game against the Jumbo Shrimp. The 24-year-old finished his night going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. It was his first home run since August 2 against the Charlotte Knights and fourth overall this season for the Sounds. He has recorded at least one hit in 7-of-his-last-12 games since August 5, including three 2-hit games. Since the start of his career in 2019, Garcia ranks first in total bases (754), second in hits (475) and in doubles (98), ties for second in triples (17), third in runs (274) and RBI (255) and eighth in homers (49) among Brewers' minor league hitters.

HIT CITY: The Sounds offense has been on a tear as they end their two-week road trip Sunday afternoon against the Jumbo Shrimp. Over the last 11 games, the Sounds rank third in RBI (72), fourth in HR (18), fifth in walks (54), sixth in batting average (.282) and 10th in hits (97) at the Triple-A level since August 18. The 13 runs on Saturday was the second time the Sounds have put up 10+ runs against Jacksonville this week and is the 11th time overall this season. Two-of-the-four highest scoring games of the season for the Sounds have come over the last five games after scoring 14 on Tuesday night. Nashville has scored 44 runs through five games this week after scoring 46 runs over the previous nine games entering the series in Jacksonville.
