NORFOLK, VA (August 23, 2026) - The Nashville Sounds completed the doubleheader sweep against the Norfolk Tides Sunday at Harbor Park. The Sounds tossed a combined no-hitter led by Brandon Sproat and Tate Kuehner in game one, Nashville's first no-hitter since 2017. A dominant 7-1 win in game two was highlighted by Jihwan Bae's three-run blast in his Sounds debut.

GAME 1: NASHVILLE - 2, NORFOLK - 0

In game one of the doubleheader, the Sounds and the Tides remained scoreless through three innings as Sproat retired all nine batters he faced, adding five strikeouts. The Sounds' first threat was in the top of the first inning with a Blake Burke one-out base hit. Luke Adams followed with a walk, which extended his on-base streak to 10 consecutive games, but a groundout and a fly out stranded both runners on base. Kuehner took over the reins in the bottom of the fourth inning and tossed a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

Ethan Murray broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning and crushed a towering one-out solo home run, his fifth of the season, to left field and gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead off of Michael Forret. Nashville tacked on another run as Eric Brown Jr. lined a single into center field. Sal Frelick then ripped a double into right field and put Brown Jr. at third. Burke grounded out to first base and scored Brown Jr. for the two-run lead.

Kuehner was dominant in the final four innings of the 7-inning contest, adding four strikeouts. The left-hander carried a combined perfect game bid into the bottom of the seventh and was one strike away from the feat after running the count full to each of the first three batters he faced in the inning. After surrendering the first Norfolk baserunner of the game with a walk, Kuehner plunked Heston Kjerstad to send the potential winning run to the plate for the Tides without a hit in the ballgame. Jose Barrero was just inches away of hitting a two-out three-run walk-off homer to left field but came up just short as Tyler Black made a spectacular catch against the wall to preserve the first Sounds no-hitter since June 7, 2017, at Omaha.

GAME 2: NASHVILLE - 7, NORFOLK - 1

The Sounds got the scoring started in game two as Brock Wilken tallied his 22nd double of the season into left field. After Black drew a walk, Murray ripped a single into left field and scored Wilken. Following a double steal that put Black and Murray into scoring position, Ramón Rodríguez scored Black with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Jacob Hurtubise drew the second walk of the frame and set up Bae to rip a three-run homer to center field in his Nashville debut, giving the Sounds a five-run lead in the top of the second inning.

Nashville poured on an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning as Burke led off the frame with a walk. After Akil Baddoo advanced Burke to second base on a ground out, Black placed an RBI-double, to right field and crossed home Burke for the 6-0 lead. Tyson Hardin ended his almost-perfect day, allowing a hit and striking out seven hitters in four scoreless innings of work.

Joel Kuhnel entered the game in the bottom of the fifth inning and worked a 1-2-3 frame before Jared Koenig replaced him in the bottom of the sixth inning. Koenig allowed a double and a single to start the inning with Jeremiah Jackson bringing home the first Norfolk run since the bottom of the third inning on Wednesday night. The run ended a 27.0 IP scoreless streak for the Sounds pitching staff.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Sounds added another run of insurance as Burke drew another leadoff walk in the game. After Baddoo singled into right field, and advanced Burke to third base, Wilken scored Burke with an RBI-single into left field and grew the lead up to six runs again. Brett Wichrowski came into the bottom of the seventh inning and closed it out for the Sounds, tossing a 1-2-3 frame with a strikeout for the 7-1 win.

With Monday off, the Sounds will continue their two-week road trip and travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jumbo Shrimp in a six-games series beginning Tuesday, August 25.

POSTGAME NOTES:

NO-NO IN NOR: The Nashville Sounds recorded their first no-hitter since June 7, 2017, at Omaha, and eighth in franchise history as RHP Brandon Sproat and LHP Tate Kuehner combined to no-hit the Norfolk Tides across seven innings in game one of the doubleheader on Sunday. After recording the first five no-hitters in team history at home, each of the last three have come on the road. Sproat retired all nine batters he faced across 3.0 IP (5 ) with Kuehner covering the final 4.0 IP (4 K). Kuehner was a strike away from completing a combined perfect game before issuing a two-out walk to Rece Hinds in the bottom of the seventh. Three of the eight no-hitters for Nashville have been combined efforts with Chris Smith (6.0 IP), Sean Doolittle (1.0 IP), Tucker Kealy (1.0 IP), and Simon Castro (1.0 IP) combining for the last no-hitter in team history before Sunday. Jim Deshaies threw the first in team history on May 4, 1984, vs. Columbus (GA) and is the only other 7-inning no-hitter for Nashville. Sunday was the fourth no-hitter in the International League this season, and 19th overall among full-season teams in the minors. There have been 14 in rookie-ball this year as well for a total of 35 total including one in the big leagues.

YOU SHALL NOT SCORE: The Nashville Sounds pitching staff tossed back-to-back shutouts for the first time since August 30-31, 2025 against the Charlotte Knights. Sunday's 2-0 shutout win in game one was the eighth shutout of the season for the Sounds, with three of the eight now coming against Norfolk including a 4-0 win on July 19 at First Horizon Park and Thursday's 7-0 win. The Sounds are just the fifth team in the International League to earn back-to-back shutouts this season alongside Jacksonville, Rochester, Syracuse and Gwinnett. The Sounds did not allow a single run to cross in 27 consecutive innings dating back to Wednesday's shutout win against the Tides, before Norfolk scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two. It was their first run scored in the last three games. The 27 consecutive innings without a run allowed were the highest in the International League, surpassing Jacksonville (23.1 IP), Rochester (22.1 IP) and Syracuse (18.0 IP). Nashville's eight shutouts are tied for the fourth-most in Triple-A this season.

A MURRAY GO ROUND: Ethan Murray blasted a solo home run to left field to give the Sounds a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning in game one against the Tides. He then tallied an RBI in game two of the doubleheader, giving the Sounds the go-ahead lead in both games. He finished the day going 2-for-5 with a HR, 2 RBI, BB, 2 R between the two games. Murray connected on his fifth home run of the season, and second of the series after going 40 games without a home run from June 19-August 18. All five of his home runs this season have come on the road. The five homers ties for the fourth-most in a single-season of his minor league career. He also hit five with High-A Wisconsin in 2023 and set a career-high with nine home runs in 2025 between Double-A Biloxi (8) and Nashville). Murray has a hit in four straight games and 12-of-his-last-15 games dating back to August 5 since the start of the Indy series on August 11.

WHAT A DE-BAE: Jihwan Bae made his Sounds debut in game two of Sunday's doubleheader against the Tides, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. 3-of-his-6 home runs this season have come against the Tides, including back-to-back games with a home run on June 18-19 with Syracuse. The three-run moonshot was his first home run when making a debut with a new team since the start of his career in 2018. It was Bae's first 3-RBI game since April 22, 2026 against Worcester when he was with Syracuse. Bae recorded his 195th multi-hit game of his career since 2018 and was his first multi-hit game since August 2 at Rochester when he went 2-for-5.

DOUBLE WILKS: Brock Wilken recorded a double in both games of Sunday's doubleheader, going 3-for-7 on the day with an RBI and a walk. The two doubles marked his 21st and 22nd double of the season for the Sounds. Wilken continues to be a top-dog for the Sounds this season and leads the team in RBI (68) and ties for the lead in home runs (13). He ranks sixth in walks (75), seventh in doubles, and ties for seventh in RBI among all full-season minor league hitters in the Brewers' farm system this year.

LICKETY SPLIT: Sal Frelick extended his on-base streak to 10 consecutive games in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against Norfolk. He finished the day going 1-for-4 with a double, his fourth of the rehab assignment with the Sounds. He has posted a .278 batting average (10-for-36), six XBH, five RBI, five walks and seven runs reaching base in all 10 games he has played for the Sounds since beginning his rehab assignment on August 8. It was Frelick's second straight game this week with a double and the third time this season he has recorded back-to-back games with a double, including twice with Milwaukee. He has posted 22 career doubles in three seasons with the Sounds.

ON-CALL: Luke Adams extended his on-base streak to 10 consecutive games in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against the Tides. He finished game one going 0-for-1 with two walks. The 10 games ties for the second longest-active on-base streak with Sal Frelick on the team behind Darrien Miller (17) and is hitting .241 (7-for-29), three XBH, four RBI, seven walks and eight runs during the streak. It's the second 10+ game on-base streak he has posted this season behind his season-long 20-game streak from April 2-June 17 which remains as the fourth-longest on-base streak for a Nashville player this season.
